Description

The Combie Road multi-purpose trail is a Class 1 concrete trail that stretches ¾ of a mile from Higgins Road to West Hacienda Drive, providing safe, non-vehicular/pedestrian-friendly access for students of three neighboring schools, and for local residents to access the neighborhood Marketplace shopping centers, and new community library.

This project is part of a multi-phase project. Prior phases included undergrounding utilities, placing a traffic signal and widening Combie Road, to accommodate vehicular traffic associated with this vibrant and growing area. This project also connected to existing paths to provide a continuous and enhanced community wide trail.

On this phase of the project, Nevada County partnered with Dokken Engineering on the design, and local contractor Hansen Brothers to build the project. The project consists of an ADA compliant, 8’ wide concrete path with 2‘ shoulders, placement of drainage improvements, rock retaining walls, and safety rails. During construction the contractor received daily thank you comments and kudos from the community. Many of the local cyclists and walkers that use the area or path showed up at the ribbon cutting ceremony to thank and congratulate the project team. The project construction costs $1,300,000 and was completed in the summer of 2025.

The results of the project are enhanced public safety, improved interconnectivity with local residents, schools, libraries and shopping centers.
