Project Description

The York Street Regional Bus Facility is an extension of the Vallejo Transit Center (VTC) funded through the Transit and Intercity Rail Program (TIRCP) 2018. It is a multi-modal facility adjacent to the San Francisco Bay Ferry Terminal in Vallejo and will accommodate increased local and regional bus service. In partnership with Solano County Transit (SolTrans), the City of Vallejo, and the Solano Transportation Authority, construction on the facility broke ground on February 24, 2020 and was completed and celebrated with a Virtual Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on December 15, 2020. The York Street facility will serve as a secondary hub for local SolTrans routes and will also accommodate regional buses such as the SolanoExpress Red and Yellow Lines (which provides connections from Solano County to El Cerrito del Norte BART and Walnut Creek BART), Napa Valley Vine Route 11, Greyhound, and Flixbus. With the expansion, this North Bay Transit Hub will provide more public transportation options for commuters and leisure travelers as they travel to the Bay Area for work or to Napa for leisure. The York St project includes streetscape amenities that serve to provide an attractive and safe place that adds to the experience of Vallejo. Locally created street art, colored pavement, shade sails, street trees, and pedestrian level lighting were added to this once forgettable block in a diverse downtown. Collaboration and creativity came together to create a unique complete street. SolTrans and SolanoExpress continue their effort to electrify their bus fleets and future upgrades at VTC and the York Street Extension include inductive charging and other infrastructure to support electric long-haul coaches. The York Street Project has been especially important during the COVID-19 Pandemic as many essential workers reside in Solano County due to housing affordability but work in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area for higher wages. SolTrans, SolanoExpress, and the San Francisco Bay Ferry offer safe, cost-effective, and dependable commute alternatives.
