Description

Annual Local/Residential Street Improvement Project
This project was the first phase of the 2nd cycle of the Citywide street resurfacing program. This phase improved local and residential streets with pavement conditions rated poor and below, in four of the City’s 20 maintenance zones. This was the largest street resurfacing project in the City’s history. With over 170 street segments or about 26.5 centerline miles (equivalent to the distance from downtown Burbank to Santa Monica Pier), and it also included removal and reconstruction of damaged curbs, gutters, sidewalks, driveways, and pedestrian ramps to comply with ADA requirements. Construction of this project called for the use of Asphalt Rubber Hot Mix (ARHM), which uses crumb rubber from recycled tires and diverted approximately 144,000 discarded tires from landfills. This project included the following items of work:

• Paving 26.5 centerline miles of roadway using over 48,000 tons of rubberized asphalt
• Reconstructing approximately 100 curb ramps
• Reconstructing over 8,000 SF of sidewalk
• Reconstructing over 16,000 SF of driveways
• Reconstructing approximately 1,000 SF of alley approaches and cross gutters
• Reconstructing approximately 2,000 LF of curbs and gutters
• Installing new high visibility crosswalks and pavement markings
