Description

The Garden Grove Complete Street Project installed approximately three miles of bicycle facilities in the City, on three arterial streets, in accordance with the City of Westminster’s General Plan, Mobility Element, and Active Transportation Plan. The project is intended to encourage using active modes of transportation, such as walking and biking, by installing a safe inter-connected pathway through the city.

The segment includes a protected bikeway on Garden Grove Boulevard, from the State Route 22 on-ramp at Valley View Street to State Route 22 off-ramp at Goldenwest Street. These improvements included replacing a dirt path with a new beautifully landscaped median, new stamped concrete, illuminated pedestrian crosswalks, traffic signal modifications, and reducing the travel lanes from four to two, thereby reducing speed and creating a safer environment for bicyclists and pedestrians.

The project also includes buffered bike lanes installed on Edwards Street between Garden Grove Boulevard and Trask Avenue, and on Trask Avenue between Edwards Street and Hoover Street. These new bicycle facilities will connect in the near future to the upcoming Mendez Historic Bike Trail on Hoover Street, from Westminster Boulevard to Bolsa Avenue.

With the addition of these new bicycle facilities, we are fulfilling the community’s long standing desire for bicycle facilities in the City and our commitment to provide recreational opportunities and a healthy lifestyle for all.
